The Road to Re-Opening

What To Expect

The museum’s number one priority is protecting the health and safety of employees, volunteers, and visitors.  Our ability to remain open relies on the cooperation of all to follow safety regulations and guidelines.

The following is a look at what to expect with our opening after the COVID19 closure.




Capacity Limits

  • Museum (inside): 275
  • Museum (outside): limited capacity
  • Heritage Ballroom: limited capacity
  • Theater: limited capacity 



Personal Protective Equipment

  • Visitors and museum workers are required to wear masks inside buildings per state order and it is strongly recommended for outside spaces.
  • Masks and gloves (if you do not have your own) are $1 each and are available for purchase in the museum store.
  • Physical clear barriers have been installed in areas of high and close contact, i.e. admission, museum store, and food counters.
  • Hand sanitizer and wipe stations are available for guests and located throughout the museum.




Social Distancing

  • Please follow posted signage to safely route you through the museum grounds.
  • Single use museum maps are available to guests.
  • It is recommended that you allow for 6 feet between yourself and others. In areas of congestion, markers will be on the floor.
  • Interactive exhibits that require touch are currently unavailable.



Food Service

  • George & Sally’s “Drive-in” and the outdoor grill are the exclusive location for food service until further notice. The cafe is not open at this time.
  • Non-cash transactions are encouraged to limit contact.
  • Orders will be delivered by runners and on trays to limit contact.
  • Menus will be disposable and single use.
  • Outdoor seating only. Cafe seating is available with limited capacity to account for social distancing.
  • Families may sit together.
  • Food service employees will wear gloves and face masks as well as engage in frequent hand washing and surface cleaning.





  • Model T Driving School
    • Schedule beyond June is TBD.
    • Closed through the month of June.


  • Ride The Classics
    • Closed through the month of June.
    • Schedule beyond June is TBD.


  • Gilmore Garage Works
    • Dependent on Phase 5 implementation.


  • Educational Programming
    • On-site programming can be scheduled, but must meet requirements.
    • Off-site programming is currently suspended and dependent upon Phase 5 implementation.




Inside Events:

  • Heritage Ballroom has limited capacity.
  • Chairs and tables will be organized to accomodate for social distancing.
  • Reservations will require specific planning to assure the following:
    • Spacing
    • Sanitizing
    • Food Safety
    • A/V Requirements
  • Catering options are as normal.

Outside Events:

  • Capacity is limited depending on type of event.

  • Camping is approved in Barry County.
  • Registration can be done through the museum store.
  • Campers must follow all museum health and safety guidelines.
