Adopt A Car

Father’s Day, June 16th, is your chance to “own” one of the classics. Gilmore Car Museum is introducing an Adopt A Car program for the first time in museum history. Up for adoption are 20 cars from the museum’s permanent collection.

While the definition of an orphan car is up for debate, generally an orphan car is one that has outlived its maker. Some of the most recognizable orphan makes include Packard, Studebaker, Hudson, Pierce-Arrow, Overland, and Edsel. The list also includes the newer and more recognizable names of Oldsmobile, Plymouth, and Saturn. At one time there were roughly 2,000 automakers in the United States. The brands currently in production that started life as American-based companies are down to just several – Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Ford, Lincoln, and Tesla.

The benefits of adoption are numerous and it’s a great way to support the museum. Several intangible benefits are reliving old memories, being an active part of the living history of the automobile, and “owning” a classic to name a few.  There is also the option of adoption in memory or honor of someone which can be a unique and personal gift.

Adopt A Car starts on June 16th, 2019. On opening day adopters will need to be present to adopt vehicles, but after Sunday, June 16th, adoption may be done in person, by mail or by phone. Pricing levels are $300, $500, and $1,000 and will include the following benefits:

  • Correspondence packet:
    • Adoption certificate
    • Photo of your car
    • Four (4) passes to visit Gilmore Car Museum
    • Four (4) passes for Ride The Classics
  • Recognition on museum website
  • Signage displayed with car
