Largest Car Show of the Season Arrives Saturday, August 2nd

OVER 1,200 SHOW VEHICLES, BOATS, & CAMPERS EXPECTED FOR 34TH ANNUAL RED BARNS SPECTACULAR red-barns-2012-sm You’ve waited all summer for the “Grand Daddy” of all car shows and now it’s time for the RED BARNS SPECTACULAR at the Gilmore Car Museum on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 8am-4pm. The name says it all—it’s the area’s oldest and largest antique, classic, and special interest and collector car show and swap meet, featuring vehicles from all eras. Celebrating its 34th year, the RED BARNS SPECTACULAR has been sponsored continuously by the Kalamazoo Antique Auto Restorers Club and the Gilmore Car Museum since it began in 1980. Among the over 1,200 show cars, this year’s highlights will include a Ford Mustang Corral, station wagons as the featured auto, vintage military vehicles, old time campers, classic boats and a parade of very rare “High Wheeler” automobiles that are over 100 years old and much more. There’s always something for everyone at the RED BARNS SPECTACULAR: a vast automotive parts swap meet, several dozen collector cars for sale, a flea market with large assortment of antiques and crafts, the museum’s ever-expanding exhibits – including the special exhibition: “American Legends: Hot Rods & Customs,” which showcases icons of hot-rodding from the 1950s and ‘60s which features the original “Little Deuce Coupe” of Beach Boys fame and the top two prize winners from the very first Detroit Autorama. The Gilmore Car Museum’s 90-acre Historic Campus, located just 20 miles northeast of Kalamazoo, will be filled with over 1,200 antique, classic, and special interest vehicles, as well as customs, street rods and motorcycles on Saturday, August 2nd. The American Station Wagon Owners Association’s National Convention will be joining Red Barn’s this year and the ever-popular display hosted by the Tin Can Tourist that draws vintage campers from around the country. All hobbyists are encouraged to join the fun by showing their 1989 or earlier car, truck, street rod or custom ride during the Red Barns Spectacular. The one day event will include two show areas and two shows – one is a Judged Car Show were some of the best of the best vehicles are a reviewed for authenticity and quality, while the second is a People’s Choice Show were peers vote for the top 50 cars. Gates will open to the public at 8 am for this ever-popular family event, which runs until 4pm, while the Museum remains open until 6pm. Visitors will have the chance to step back in time and take a ride in an antique car, locate those hard-to-find parts for their restoration project, or even purchase a collector vehicle from the large “car corral” area. They’ll also find several vendors selling vintage auto-related items, general antiques, as well as arts and crafts. Guests can also enjoy the variety of old-time food concessions and the Museum’s authentic 1940s roadside eatery—George & Sally’s Blue Moon Diner. Whether you’re interested in the antiques, classics, muscle cars of the 1960’s, or prefer trucks, customs, or street rods, vintage boats or campers, this event will not disappoint and you will be amazed! The Gilmore Car Museum exhibits, showcasing its extraordinary collection of over 350 historic vehicles, including the limited-time exhibit “American Legends: Hot Rods & Customs,” will be open at no extra charge during the RED BARNS SPECTACULAR. General Admission is only $10.00 per person, children 11 & under are FREE, and includes the car show and all the expanded museum exhibit buildings.
