Slot Cars and the Kalamazoo Connection

John Lacko, Racing Photographer and Historian

Slot cars exploded into a major hobby during the sixties that almost every car nut enjoyed.  One of the first slot car tracks in the U. S. was built here in Kalamazoo.  In the last twenty years, slot cars have enjoyed a major comeback.  Now there is a variety of new slot cars that are attracting many former racers, so we will explore all the different types and scales, Ready to Run, Womp Womps, Thingies, road racing, oval, drag racing, HO, 1:32, 1:24.  The session will end up at the new Gilmore Car Museum 1:32 Red Barns Raceway.  If you have some 1:32 slot cars, bring them along and give the RBR a try!
