The History and Evolution of the Country’s Most Unique Aviation Museum – The Air Zoo

Bob Ellis, Former CEO / Director Air Zoo

Robert (Bob) Ellis, retired CEO of the Air Zoo was its first employee. Working with a capable staff and Board of Directors the Air Zoo developed into one of the nation’s finest aviation museums. In the mid-nineties however, it became clear that if the Air Zoo were ever to become a major national attraction, by appealing to a broader audience other than aviation enthusiasts, it was going to have to break the rules. And break the rules it did, for when the new Air Zoo opened in the Spring of 2004, its primary audience shifted from old grey-haired men to young boys and girls. Finally, the Air Zoo was inspiring and changing people’s lives in a positive way.
